Now that the Revit Structure Subs pack has been released and hopefully downloaded, I wanted to share a few great new features with you. I have spend a few hours looking at the new features and decided to break these into ‘bite sized’ chunks!
The best feature for me is the 3D framing tools. You can now import a 3D wireframe model and pick the lines and create 3D structures. This has been very high on the wish list. I have found this a really handy tool for complex areas and have tried this on the two projects below.

Here is the wire frame model in AutoCAD. I simply imported this into Revit Structure and then picked the 3D lines to create beams and columns.

I am currently looking at the new bridge modelling tools and the interaction with Civil3D and will post my findings shortly!

Autodesk have just released update 1 for Revit Structure 2010 and Revit Structure Suite 2010. It has a few improvements, especially for those of you linking to analysis software and using Cellular beams. I have tested a few of the updated features. You can download the update from the following link:

Linking in place families for Analysis
It is now possible to transfer the analytical model from an in place family to your analysis software. This will just bring the line work through but previously this did not bring anything across. Below you can see the in-place family of a slab in Revit Structure.

Here is the same geometry in Robot Structural Analysis.
Cell Beams
The Cell and Castellated Beam families have a several new parameters to control the section and independent setting out for the start and end cell positions. This is taken from the gridline as shown below.

You will need to notch the beam back to the column using the notch tool.

For a full list of updates and fixes you can download the enhancement update list from the below link:

One of the frustrating things I have come up against while using Revit Structure 2010 is the lack of certain commands on the ribbon. The Revit Structure 2009 interface had common editing and detailing tools across the top of the interface and the design bar on the left hand side. This meant that tools such as Align, match type and the dimension tools were available and visible whenever and wherever we needed them. With the 2010 interface these tools are restricted to preset ribbons, how annoying! One solution is to use the Quick Access Toolbar (QAT) to add these missing tools.

Here is my QAT. You can see that I have added the aligned dimension tool, Align command and set work plane command. You can add these tools by right clicking over the command and then choosing Add to Quick Access Toolbar.

Looks like we are getting back to good old fashioned toolbars again. I can see my QAT getting fairly long! How are you getting along with Revit 2010 interface? I would be interested to have your comments, good or bad.
